Here's an interesting quote from the book, which I think I ought to share with those of you who are homeschooling.
"I strongly caution parents against setting out to teach their child all of the phonics rules or a complete reading curriculum. Teaching reading is a complex task and one that should be left to a professional."
from Overcoming Dyslexia: A New and Complete Science-Based Program for
Reading Problems at Any Level by Sally Shaywitz, M.D.
Danger! Stop teaching your children to read! You can incur permanent damage to their brains and thus ruin them for life. In fact, in some cases catastrophic explosions have occurred in households where parents attempt to teach reading without previous professional training.
Me learn my kids good how to read!
ReplyDeleteWow, she pretty much call us parents slack-jawed mouth breathing morons. Well, maybe not, but I have seen the level of education needed to be a teacher and I think any educated well read person could easily compete.
Wow, that woman needs to get a brain.
